Set Me Free - Kink Ador 2015/2021 "Set Me Free" is a playful joyride through a dark pop landscape. Kink Ador is definitely inspired by 90's rock on these songs, but it's not a throwback album. The clarity and power in lead singer Sharon Koltick Junk's vocals make the Kink Ador sound something more unique and modern; there is no mumbling or shoe-gazing to be found here. The album has a fresh playfulness in the songs which comes out on tracks like “Road to Hell.” Road to Hell has the classic rock theme of driving oneself to destruction but the self aware lyrics bring the song into the post-modern era. Another noteworthy track is “Personal Judas” which is a nod to the Depeche Mode song “Personal Jesus”. Personal Judas takes a few psychedelic twists and turns with blaring guitar solos and Bonham style drum moments. Overall, the effect makes you want to turn it up and melt into the speaker. The second half of the album rounds out with a shiner pop aesthetic on loves songs like “In Love with Your Love” and “Sunshine” both co-written with producer Gregory Lattimer. The album was produced and recorded by rock legend Ken Coomer of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo fame, recorded in Nashville, TN. The album is worth the trip.
Shape of Life - Kink Ador 2012 The Shape of Life is Kink Ador’s second album (EP). The songs are well honed rock jams shaped by the band’s keen understanding of how to get a heavy groove to move across the dance floor. This makes sense since Kink Ador is a band led by a bassist/vocalist, similar to the classic rockers Thin Lizzy. The groove is always tightly locked in with the gritty drums. Signature tracks here include “Barbarians” and “The Shape of Life to Come.” Barbarians is the first track on the album, it comes at you like a marauding heathen, intense and driving. It also features the clear funky vocals of Sharon Koltick Junk skipping over the top. The Shape of Life song features lead singer, Junk, performing a trumpet solo to kick things off. The song reminds the listener of a beat poem, succinct and funky. This is a great second effort from the band Kink Ador.
Animal - Kink Ador 2010 "Animal" is Kink Ador’s first studio effort. The band is beginning to shape their signature sound, 90’s rock with a powerful diva bassist and singer at the front. It all comes down to the title track for this EP, Animal is a knockout song; the track has the simple construction of a blues song and is supported by a swampy New Orleans style horn section coming in at the choruses. The song also features a ripping guitar solo by the guitar god Kenny Olson. The EP a really strong introduction to this new band, Kink Ador.
